The number of women in the fields of marketing and PR is growing, in fact based on sheer volume women dominate these professions. A study from the PRCA found that 64% of PR workers were female – compared to just 47% of the overall workforce. This is great news and clearly these disciplines continue to appeal to women in a way others haven’t been able to.

It’s also encouraging to see women increasingly stepping into the top level roles as they prove success has nothing to do with gender but what results you bring to the table.

As a creative marketing agency we have certainly valued and benefited from the experience, knowledge and skills of our very capable female members of the team and they have helped shape what the agency is today.

There needs to be more recognition for the success and achievements of women in PR and marketing, and this is exactly why we are proud to be sponsoring the first Venus Awards PR & Marketing category in Southampton.

The Venus Awards were launched by Tara Howard in 2009 to celebrate local working women in business. The awards started in Dorset and, it won’t be a surprise to you that, since then they have become a feature on the calendar in many other areas including Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. What makes these awards even more exciting is that the winners of the regional events go on to the national finals. It’s clear why these awards have been dubbed the “working women’s Oscars”, and we are very excited about being involved with them over the next year.

Nominations for the PR & Marketing category are open. If you know a woman in a PR/marketing role who is delivering amazing things for their organisation then nominate them now.
